Quality Inspections and Its Need of Innovation

By December 23, 2016

High Quality has become such a necessity nowadays, that no company can survive without it, if they want to reach success among consumers. Providing high quality goods is not an easy task, nor is it easy to maintain that quality throughout the time and the changes in the market. That is why Quality Inspection has stepped into the arena to solve this issue. Quality Inspection is the process of putting measures together in order to test and check the quality of characteristics of different products to confirm their compliance, before they are launched or distributed among consumers. This is usually conducted not by the manufacturing business itself, but by a specially professionalized staff or a company.

When the quality started to matter more during the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, sometimes consumers would bear with defects due to low awareness about quality, or in case of complaints, the products would simply be replaced with new ones. But because this was obviously costly, people then started to pay more attention to the quality assurance with the mission of creating high quality products for longer use by eliminating defects. After all, low quality speaks of a low company name, which is not something businesses and brands want to possess in the market and among their competitors. And since time is something that flies quickly, taking into consideration the fast-growing advancements in economy and technologies, Quality Inspections should not be left behind those improvements.

Speaking of new advancements and changes, a need for innovations in this sphere is an inevitable must have. Apart from the 4 classic stages of product quality inspection, which are:

  1. Pre-production inspection,
  2. During production inspection,
  3. Final random inspection,
  4. Container loading inspection,

New approaches have been shown towards the different methods these processes are being conducted with. The important feature of those new methods is that they are fast, thorough and reliable.

Some of the currently used systems of Quality Inspection are (and have very well served the industry) Six-Sigma (which is created in order to detect and eliminate defects) and Statistical Process Control (SPC, which serves in order to monitor and control the inspection process). They have been around from the 20th century and have done their job productively. But according to the European Commission, new methodologies in quality inspection are supposed to drastically change currently existing approaches and improve them to better the maintenance of quality.

The technological advancements and innovations are needed to provide more precise data in a shorter time with new equipments, software and  new monitoring and prognosis knowledge-based models.

New models and innovations in the procedure of Quality Inspection are important to detect and fix different defects in a short time and to further minimize the possible presence of other flaws.

Just like in every sphere of the economy, with the constant rising competition in the market and all the industries, all the brands and businesses need innovative approaches and new developments to stay competent and maintain high quality in everything they do.

After all, any kind of production is done in order to satisfy different needs of consumers with a wide variety of services or finished products. But in order for the consumers to be satisfied, those products and services should meet all their standards and expectations, have good quality and serve them for a long period of time. And sometimes, quality inspection can be passed by because of the complicated and long procedure. That’s why new technologies and innovations should be present in all stages of quality inspection to keep the productiveness of it up to date.

Constant innovations will also make the inspection process with testings and occasional checks very fast and less time consuming, which will make it an easier task for the inspectors themselves. Also, the changes and the fast response of quality checks will help the manufacturers make changes and fix the defects accordingly in a relatively fast manner to avoid further defects.

And last but not least, the need of innovations in quality inspection can be summed up in one simple statement: innovative and good inspection leads to increased and higher quality, high quality leads to satisfied customers, satisfied customers lead to the increase of both the company’s name and its revenues. So it is safe to say, that innovations in quality inspection are needed for the industry to grow, to eliminate possible disappointing performances and to get better returns.
