Case Study

Yunus Textile Mills Transforms Supplier Evaluation and Goes Paperless with Inspectorio Responsible Sourcing and Compliance

The case studies mentioned herein were conducted using our earlier individual solutions: Inspectorio Sight (now Quality Risk Management), Inspectorio Rise (now Responsible Sourcing & Compliance), and Inspectorio Tracking (now Production Management). Inspectorio transitioned to a unified platform approach, enhancing and interconnecting these solutions under the Inspectorio Platform to better serve our customers. Click here to learn more about the Inspectorio Platform.

Summary

Yunus Textile Mills, one of Pakistan’s largest textile manufacturers and suppliers, wanted to digitize and streamline its internal factory assessment and external supplier assessment process. Previously, they managed this process manually on paper records. Not only was the manual process time-consuming and inefficient, but it did not provide the necessary data to feed into their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for decision-making when evaluating factory performance and supplier performance.

To solve this challenge, Yunus chose Inspectorio to create a digital workflow to verify and assess their suppliers’ capabilities. Inspectorio enables Yunus to quickly evaluate its suppliers and partner with the highest performers to support efficient customer operations. Yunus launched the “Yunus Supplier Assessment Module of Inspectorio” and the “Yunus-IQMS (Integrated Quality Management System), a live assessment solution with interactive analytics for informed decision-making.”

“Digitalization is one of the pillars of our elevation strategy and we are aggressively moving forward with digitalization and machine integration in all of our operations. It is helping us to utilize existing resources better and save costs, lean on technology to enhance productivity and unlock efficiencies, reduce human errors, enable transparency, and, most importantly, provide data analytics to reengineer our process. Our partnership with Inspectorio is part of that elevation strategy, and we will continue to add more functionality and capabilities moving forward.”

– Mr. Obaid Mukhtar, General Manager QA,QC,QMS

About the Company

Yunus Textile Mills provides home textiles to customers worldwide. Established in 1998, Yunus soon became an industry leader in supplying a wide range of bedding products under branded and private label packaging to department stores, mass merchants, off-price retailers, and eCommerce. With integrity, innovation, and inclusiveness firmly at the core of its values, Yunus remains committed to providing quality products and services to its customers.

Challenges

Going paperless

For a company with a turnaround capacity of over 15 million meters per month, tedious, manual data collection and entry was an inefficient use of time and resources. They relied on paper-based questionnaires for potential supplier evaluation, which were stored in manual files along with pictorial evidence to record the data. This was time-consuming, making the data susceptible to incorrect entries and discrepancies.

Becoming digital and efficient with meaningful analytics

Yunus’s clients wanted visibility into their sub-suppliers’ raw materials, quality management systems, and policies to ensure that the products they received were of the highest standards. But with too much human intervention and paperwork involved, Yunus found it difficult to declare, evaluate and elevate their sub-suppliers in a timely fashion.

Streamlining supplier assessments

Yunus needed to perform supplier assessments fast, accurately, and consistently to meet their clients’ expectations. However, they lacked the tools to quickly acquire data, assess their suppliers’ technical compliance and capabilities, and ensure they were working with the best in the industry, all in real time.

Solution

The team at Yunus is committed towards Textile 4.0, a new era of digitized textile manufacturing and process.

To accomplish this goal, they knew they needed to streamline their two core processes:

  1. Digitizing the supplier assessment process
  2. Digitizing factory internal assessment (Yunus I-QMS)

With Inspectorio, Yunus found a powerful solution to quickly:

  • Automate their supplier assessment process to ensure fully compliant suppliers, providing customers with one-click digital visibility
  • Eliminate the need for paper-based audits and questionnaires
  • Become transparent and increase visibility for their customers
  • Make better decisions using interactive analytics
  • Reduced carbon footprint by saving paper
  • Improve and integrate decision-making through IQMS for factory assessment to enable continuous improvement and risk mitigation

Fasih Iqbal, Senior Manager QMS at Yunus was familiar with Inspectorio’s technology as Yunus was already using Inspectorio to improve their quality assurance operations. When he saw what Inspectorio could do for their digitized assessments, he knew it was the right fit.

“We believe that this digital transformation is the need of the hour to provide confidence to our customers for risk-free upstream supply chain and operational processes leading to certified quality products. With this in mind, we collaborated with Inspectorio and developed a solution to do an internal assessment of our factories and an external assessment of our sub-suppliers with ease. It was important for us to move away from manual spreadsheets and digitize the storage and analysis of all the data collected, and that’s where Inspectorio came in. Our partnership with Inspectorio has helped us provide a secure, efficient, and transparent way of managing our supply chain.”

– Mr. Fasih Iqbal, Senior Manager QMS at Yunus

The team at Yunus found that Inspectorio was exactly what they were looking for. The implementation was quick and hassle-free, and they found it easy to onboard their sub-suppliers and their own factories.

“The onboarding was a lovely, great experience. We were able to implement Inspectorio in a really short time, and it made the whole process much more organized,” said Fasih.

Results

With Inspectorio, Yunus could digitize the entire internal and external assessment process. They could easily collect data, assess and approve suppliers in real time, and generate reports easily. They shared the reports with their clients to show that they were compliant with industry standards and had the highest quality products.

Yunus particularly loved Inspectorio’s visual reports and the real-time analytics of internal factory and external supplier assessment analytics. The reports provided an accurate observational analysis with pictures, making it easier to understand the context quickly. The analytics of factory performance easily integrated with their ERP system, which provided insights into their building performance. If a specific factory lagged, the Operation, Planning, and Quality team could quickly navigate the risk and take corrective measures.

“With Inspectorio on my phone, I can perform the assessments on the fly. We reduced the lead time from hours to a few minutes,” said Fasih. “It allows our customers to see live reports on their systems, saving them time and resources.”

What was most important to Yunus was winning their customers’ trust by providing complete transparency into the supplier assessments and internal factory assessments as per required protocols.

“Inspectorio has enabled our clients to view the live performance from their desks, no matter where they are located.”

“Inspectorio has given us all the tools we need to build a culture of transparency. We are constantly innovating, growing, and improving our processes. We can now confidently tell our customers that we are committed to creating a risk-free supply chain.”
